Cycle to School

Aston Clinton School's approach to cycling to school has contributed to our achievement of 'Healthy Schools' status in July 2007. See our Photo Gallery page for more information.

We recognise the many positive benefits of pupils cycling to and from school. We therefore look to encourage this form of travel behaviour in as many ways as possible. Some of the benefits of cycling to school include:

• Improving health through physical activity.

• Establishing positive active travel behaviours.

• Promoting independence and improving safety awareness.

• Reducing congestion, noise and pollution in the community.

Reducing environmental impact of the journey to school.

Bikeability

Aston Clinton School is a Bikeability school. Bikeability is the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. Several pupils have now successfully completed their Bikeability Level 2 with more children beginning the course. Once a child completes Bikeability Level 2, they are able to apply for a cycle permit.

Cycle Permit Information

All pupils who have successfully completed Bikeability Level 2 are able to apply for a cycle permit. A cycle permit application form is available from the school office. The permit needs to be displayed on the bike at all times. This allows the school bike racks to be used. Bike racks must not be used unless a permit is displayed on the bike.

Scooting to School

In addition to cycling to school, children are permitted to travel to school by scooter. Scooters can be left on the school premises in designated areas. Please contact the school office for further information.

Bike Event Day

On Tuesday 7th October Aston Clinton School hosted its first Bike It Breakfast, attended by Dr Bike who had offered a free bicycle MOT to as many cyclists as possible. A staggering 94 children cycled to school that morning. They all enjoyed a delicious breakfast of cereal, croissants and jam, hot chocolate or apple juice. It was a lovely start to the day and there was a real sense of community in the hall as they ate their breakfasts together. Dr Bike carried out MOTs on 18 bikes and full details of all work undertaken was sent home with the children. Look out for more Bike It events in the future.
